Renée’s "Blue 47" Energized Fashion Week
The invitation for Renée’s Spring/Summer 2027 presentation was simple and bold — an electric blue jar of Barbicide with the information typed on it. Titled “BLUE 47,” the collection was a radically joyous celebration of the past, present, future, and all the colorful moments in between.
Founder and Creative Director Camryn Renée McClain wrote that “There’s an element of escapism within “BLUE 47,” but this collection is ultimately about something bigger: the human need to dream”. Through textured garments, colorful, patterned wigs, pastel eyeshadow, and clinking bracelets, the human need to dream came alive in the New York showroom (held at Space LES).
The room buzzed with energy, just like the clothes. The second the first model stepped in, that same buzzing energy grew to immeasurable levels. There were cheeky rompers with braided fabric, beaded underwear, striped bras, and airy chiffon dresses. The collection was sexy and fun, simultaneously grounded in the reality McClain creates from and the dreamscape she creates for.
McClain's understanding regarding the importance of creating a visually enticing experience, one element at a time, was clear in “BLUE 47”. The hair team, Jaylin Seng and Paul Miller at Outre Hair and Cutler Salon, created one-of-a-kind wigs full of layers, stripes, beads, texture, bangs, and, of course, color. From tones of pink and purple like lilac, dusty rose, fuchsia, and baby pink to bright, bold orange, bleach blonde, and Barbicide blue, each hairstyle further immersed the viewer in Renée’s dream-driven world.
The styling, led by Isahia Dorty and assisted by Riyahzoe, saw the models sporting colorful beaded necklaces, bangle bracelets, and statement earrings. The styling did more than elevate McClain’s designs — it added a sensorial, almost hypnotic layer. The makeup, done by T. Cooper of Major Face, had a retrofuturistic-inspired quality. Softly saturated, each model’s eyelids were painted with a bright shadow, adding to the allure of the Renée wearer. Finally, Terri Johnson’s nail art held no reins. The artist’s creations were the ultimate finishing touch — feminine and playful, shining and eye-catching.
With all of these elements working in conjunction, the Renée garments themselves stood out in utter vibrance, attracting all the eyes, gasps, and applause.
Those colorful moments in between the spheres of time are where the Renée collection existed; through McClain’s vivid mind, the presentation came to life. And while Barbicide may be a sterilizing, disinfecting liquid, in the Renée world, it only brought about color and energy.
